Description:A German Prisoner of War is hoisting the Union Jack on the YMCA Hut ,which is probably one of the two along Penkridge Bank Road. A large number of the PoWs were sent out to do work in the area to undertake work such as road building, gardening, farming and quarrying.
There is mention in one report of twenty prisoners being sent to Rugeley Camp to the Army Service Corps stables. There must have been a great deal of work to send so many men. However, the military railway would bring supplies to the main storage area and from there, mules and carts would distribute the supplies to individual Battalion Lines. One photograph of Brocton Camp shows a large number of these supply wagons posing for a photo at the Army Service Corps so there must have been a similar number at Rugeley Camp.
