Description:This picture could have been taken at any of the Parade Grounds on Rugeley Camp as the vast majority of the twenty Battalion Lines were laid out identically due to the flat terrain. In the foreground is the first of the Officers' Huts, these were larger than the standard huts and sub-divided into individual rooms and each had its own stove. Judging by the number of chimneys there were eighteen Officers per Hut. The next Hut is the Officers' Mess followed by another Officers' Hut. The fourth Hut is the Sergeants' Mess and according to detailed plans it consisted primarily of a dining room, reading room, kitchen, beer cellar and an external yard compound. The Sergeants had their own accommodation Huts which were in front of the monotonous rows of huts stretching out into the distance. There appears to be a table at the head of the Parade Ground and in other photographs you see someone standing on them, normally at the Sunday Services.
