Description:This enormous tree was a popular local attraction. People often chose to visit the tree for a summer outing. Many of the branches needed supports because of their weight and length. When the branches of this tree were measured in April 1927, several years after this photograph was taken, they were noted as having a 48 feet spread in all directions. Sadly the tree had declined by the late 1940s and was dead by 1961.
This postcard is believed to have been photographed and published by J.S. Simnett of Burton-upon-Trent. It is postmarked 12 October 1909.
