Description:The church of St. James the Great, Norton Canes, was built as a replacement for a previous church lost to fire in 1888. It took two hours for a fire engine to arrive from Walsall only for the hose to split. The local brook was dammed by children and a bucket chain formed but in vain. The new church was built and opened by the end of the year to designs by Osborn and Reading.
