Description:The postcard infers that the troops are fraternizing with the locals or maybe their loved ones came to visit and stay in rooms close to the Camp. It is known that many people let rooms out to visiting spouses, or fiances, some as an act of kindness, others to make some well needed extra income.

The Barley Mow Public House is on the far left of the photograph and to the right of it there are three sets of posts which shows where the military railway crosses the roadway. The "X" above the houses on the right is probably to show the location of the Milford & Brocton railway station which is where many of the troops would have originally arrived and in 1917 prisoners of war would have had the long slow walk to Brocton Camp. Two soldiers appear to be standing guard on the main road from Stafford to Rugeley, close by the entrance to Shugborough Hall.
