Description:The Standing Camp Plans for the period shows the Regimental Institutes were some of the largest buildings on the Battalion Lines. The officers had their own recreational huts as did the sergeants, so this building was for other ranks. The corporals had their own smaller separate room and bar, and there was a large supper room and bar for the ordinary soldier. At the far end of the building was the Games and Reading Room. Linked to the main structure was the kitchen, store rooms and an external yard. The beer cellar was behind the two bars. Interestingly, the remains of these Regimental Institutes have large concrete pads which were for the kitchen and cellar, with numerous concrete supports either side for the main building structure. Number 1 Battalion Line was on Rifle Range Corner so this may well be where this building was located.
