Date:June 1964

Description:This is the view eastwards along Stoke Old Road from close to the corner with Balloon Street in Hartshill. Balloon Street was known as Federation Street until the 1950s. The Victorian terraced houses on the right have been cleared, but the later, early 20th century left hand side is largely intact. The corner shop at the bottom is at the junction with Victoria Street.

The children are probably on their way home from the nearby Hartshill school. The two lads (playing marbles?) don't seem to have impressed the girls.
