Description:Nurses at St. George’s Hospital, Stafford are pictured off duty for a while and relaxing in their attractive and comfortable sitting-room, where they could often entertain friends. The sitting-room was well furnished with a radio, television and a piano. This room is now a meeting room in Foundation House at St. George's Hospital. The photograph was part of an article in the Staffordshire Newsletter on recruiting nursing staff for the hospital, which at the time was around 130 strong and making it about 50 per cent understaffed. The hospital was very eager to recruit young men and women as student mental nurses.
