Description:Edgar Meadows' grocers and bakers shop on the Main Road through Croxton. The right hand side of the building was extended to form the shop. The building had previously been the Swan with Two Necks inn and was then a tailor's shop. The tailor's shop was owned by Samuel Boughey (1846-97) and he established the grocery and bakery, using water from a well opposite still called Boughey's Well locally. When he died in 1897 the business was taken over by Albert Meadows (1856-1942), the husband of Samuel's sister Sarah (1854-1950). Edgar took over the shop some time between 1916 and 1939, when Albert was living in retirement.
