W H Cannaway lived with his wife and young family for a time at Peakes Road, Etchinghill, Rugeley and he became Head of English at Stafford College of Further Education in the 1950s. He wrote the screenplay for the film ‘The Ipcress File’ featuring Michael Caine. He was a very keen angler basing several of his novels on the theme. The semi-autobiographical novel ‘A Creel of Willow’ includes a lightly fictionised map with place names with identifiable places and plot details between Rugeley and the River Blythe.

In the background is the embankment for the railway line running from Rugeley Trent Valley to Rugeley Town Stations.
