Description:A postcard view created in 1984 to celebrate 50 years of the Plaza Cinema on Horse Fair, Rugeley.

The Plaza opened as The Picture House on 12 November 1934 at 7.00pm. The first films to be shown there were ‘Evergreen’ starring Jessie Matthews and ‘Pardon my Pups’ with Shirley Temple. The cinema was designed by Birmingham architect Archibald Hurley Robinson and built by J R Deacon of Lichfield. In the 1940s the cinema was renamed The Plaza which later closed in 1996 and was converted into a public house which opened in 1998.

This postcard was photographed and published by Chris Ingram assisted by Frank Aston, with acknowledgement to Chris Clegg of the Mercia Cinema Society.
