Description:John Maddock started manufacturing pottery in 1830 at a works on Newcastle Street. The modern works in the photograph is at the top of Newcastle Street. The large site was bounded by Woodbank, Wycliffe Street and Newcastle Street. Maddock's factory has been demolished and the site is now a supermarket. The company also had a works further down in Dalehall. Beyond Maddock's works is Mayfair, ladies hairdressing salon, at No. 11 Newcastle Street.
