Description:Terraced houses, numbers 1 & 13, in Watergate Street in Tunstall. The houses in this area date from the middle of the 19th century and even before 1939 there was a programme of slum clearance in the area. The houses in the photograph are separated by an alleyway leading into a courtyard behind. Now demolished and replaced by light industry. The lamp standard is an original gas street light, probably converted to electricity.
