Date:January 1964

Description:At the time of the photograph, this was the eastern end of Sneyd Street, which was renamed Ladywell Road in the 1950s. The photograph was taken looking north west near the corner of Wesley Street.

On the left edge of the photograph is the Salvation Army Citadel, dating from 1882 and is the only building in the photograph still standing. The view today is very different with the houses both sides of the road cleared and the area redeveloped with low rise flats. The Citadel is no longer used by the Salvation Army. The corner shop on the right was, in the 1900s, The Shakespeare Inn.
