Date:1908

Description:An exterior view of Coppice Pit, Brereton, near Rugeley. The postcard caption refers to the accident of February 15th, 1908 when the workings were flooded and three men (Albert Curtis, William Jarvis and Isaac Harvey) were killed. This led to the closure of the pit, after 60 years of use.

Three yew trees were planted near the roadside at St. Michael's churchyard, Brereton to commemorate each of the colliers who lost their lives in the disaster. The trees remained until they were removed for road widening in 1971.
