Description:Drayton Manor was the home of the Peel family and was built by Sir Robert Peel's father in about 1790. This house was demolished in 1830 and the new house shown here was completed in 1833, designed by Robert Smirke, a famous architect of the day who had also designed the British Museum in London. The Manor had many important visitors, perhaps the most famous being Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1843. Drayton Manor was demolished in the 1920's, leaving only the clock tower to remain.
Sir Robert Peel, his father (also called Robert Peel), and his son, all represented Tamworth in Parliament. The family left their mark on Tamworth, with the Tamworth Savings Bank, and Peel Schools, built separately by Sir Robert Peel and his father.
