Date:October 1963

Description:A view from Kingsway in Stoke towards the Spode Works of W T Copeland & Sons. The photograph is taken from in front of Kings Hall and the brick surround to the New Cenotaph is just visible in the bottom right of the photograph. At the right edge is an electricity substation.

The name Kingsway dates from the 1913 visit of King George & Queen Mary. Prior to this date the area was Wolfe Street and Tower Street. The car park in the photograph was the site of Robinson & Leadbetter who produced Parian
Statuary (porcelain imitating marble). In the car park is a typical range of early 1960s motorcars including Morris/Austin 1100, Austin A40, Ford Anglia & Poplar, Vauxhall Victor, and Triumph Herald.
