Description:This is a view north east along Caroline Street in Longton from close to the railway bridge. The Belstaff clothing factory is on both sides of the street just beyond The Roebuck public house (No 5 Caroline Street), on the left. Belstaff of Longton was a clothing manufacturer specialising in high performance waterproof jackets. The company was founded in 1924 and had a second factory in Silverdale. They were the first company to produce waxed cotton all weather jackets aimed at motorcyclists. They diversified into goggles, gloves and other weatherproof garments and later into golf wear. The Longton factory closed in the 1990s and by 2011 the company had become part of the Italian owned Mogliano Veneto group.

Right at the far end of Caroline Street, in the centre of the photograph, is the Miners' Rest public house, and to the left of that, a chimney of the Tuscan Works.
