Description:Postcard view of the waterfall on the diverted Rising Brook at Slitting Mill Dutton's Pool (previously known as Slitting Mill Pool). James Dutton, a carpenter, resided at adjacent property named the Horns in the mid 18th Century and later became an innkeeper. The pool is now more commonly known as Horns Pool.
The waterfall is an outlet weir from the pool which is thought to have powered (via a water wheel) a steel rod slitting mill located below. The pool is thought to be late 18th century in origin.
In 2011 SOTMAS performed a limited archeological exaction in the area below the waterfall, discovering slag and a brick floor deep below the surface.
Postcard published by William Shaw of Burslem.
