Description:This photograph shows the removal or renovation of the bridge over the Trent & Mersey Canal at the Summit Lock (also known as Stoke Top Lock) at the junction with the Caldon Canal. Immediately behind the bridge is the entrance to the lock and immediately behind this, the canal buildings at the junction. The two buildings on the right stand largely unchanged today. They were part of the toll collection office and a warehouse. To protect toll collectors and boatman from the weather, the summit lock was covered by a roof. This can be seen to the left: it was demolished in the 1960s.
Bert Bentley copied the original photograph in February 1964.
