The couple, who had represented Great Britain on a number of occasions in international roller skating contests, were leaving to take up a career in roller skating. Mr Preston was taking an appointment with Mecca Ltd., as manager of their first roller skating rink in the country at Birmingham.
Mr Preston spent nine years at Stafford Works in the Toolroom, three years in the Field Engineering Services at Kidsgrove and two years later he was promoted to Foreman in Clean Area Assembly. Mrs Preston worked for the company for six years and was employed as a Secretary in the Supply Office.
