Date:22nd of November 1947

Description:The LMS (London, Midland and Scottish Railway) Diesel Electric Locomotive No 10000 under construction at Derby Railway Works.

The locomotive was designed by the LMS Chief Mechanical Engineer, H G Ivatt. The English Electric Company was also involved and supplied an EE16SVT 1600 hp diesel engine, DC generator, control gear and traction motor from their factories around the United Kingdom. When finished the exterior had a streamlined art-deco style twin cab with black and chromatic silver livery. The LMS 10000 operated from 1948 with a regular speed of around 80 mph and a top speed of around 93 mph until the mid-1960s.

This image has been taken from an original glass negative which has been donated to the Staffordshire County Museum by Alstom Power in Stafford.
