Description:Workmen loading limestone onto a boat on the Caldon Canal at Froghall, with the lime kilns smoking in the background. The boat, 'Edgar' belongs to Brunner, Mond & Co. Ltd. of Winnington and Sandbach, Cheshire. Brunner and Mond formed a partnership in 1873 to produce soda ash at a new factory at Winnington on the River Weaver.
