Description:Certificate of Efficiency for the Rifle Volunteer Corps awarded to Corporal Ralph Adams of Narrowdale, Alstonefield, who enrolled with the 8th Derbyshire Rifle Volunteer Corps in 1860.

Derbyshire Yeomanry Volunteers were formed in 1761, mainly from young farmers, but were not organised until 1794. The volunteers provided their own horses and underwent short periods of training.
