Description:This view shows the Trent and Mersey Canal and former Newcastle Branch heading off under the bridge on the left. The Newcastle branch canal was completed in about 1800 and abandoned in 1935. The Newcastle Canal was very little used except by the Spode, Minton and Wolfe pottery manufacturers whose factories were situated close to the canal.
