Date:November - December 1970 (c.)

Description:Susan Ellis is pictured making adjustments to the foliage garlands that would later be part of the Christmas decorations around the interior of the store and in the window displays.

In the background stapled to the wall is a wide selection of pre-decimalisation Showcard’s and price tickets used in window displays, these were produced by a part-time ticket printer on the departments Masseeley hot foil process printer.

The Display Department was located on the first floor in part of the Albert Hall building which stood in Crabbery Street, Stafford. It was demolished in the late 1970’s and rebuilt to become part of the stores sales floor. (please see other Past Track views of the Albert hall).

Stafford Co-op Department Store closed on Friday 26 April 2013. The Express and Star newspaper published a front page article confirming that the 55,000 sq. ft. store was closing due to stiff competition from online retailers, with the loss of 73 jobs.
