Description:The band was formed by Band Sergt. H. Wood from members of Stone's battalion of volunteers. Several of Sergt. Wood's sons served in the company and played in the band.

The band was very popular and played at numerous events and dances throughout the area. On Whit Monday 1889 they had the honour of being the first band to play on the bandstand in Longton Park.
