Date:1905

Description:View of High Street, looking towards Market Square. The road surface was rough, with ruts made by horse-drawn vehicles. In the summer the council sprayed the road with water to keep the dust down.

On the right is the entry to the slaughterhouse which belonged to Slater's butchers shop. Further up can be seen the cast iron canopy of the old Town Hall.
