Description:Brevitt Carrier's canvas-topped lorry is crossing the Cemetery Road railway bridge in Willenhall. This is very close to he photographer's family printing business in Moat street: Alfred Cartwright & Sons.

According to an article on 'The Commercial Motor' archive website, one Josiah Brevitt, a Willenhall lock and key maker used to walk the 22 mile return journey with his wares to Birmingham. He was often asked to carry packages for other locksmiths and so in 1836 he purchased a pack horse and later a cart.

His son took over the business in his teens and built up the business to over forty horse-drawn vehicles including furniture vans and hearses. The fleet was mechanised in 1919 and grew into a substantial carrier business.

At the time of this photograph the business was probably working out of Waterglade Lane, Willenhall.
