Date:1830 - 1840 (c.)
Description:This is an exquisite example of an early Victorian dress made out of silk. Over time and because of exposure to light silk deteriorates which is why this example is in places in a very poor state of repair. The elaborate style of the dress suggests that it may be an early Victorian wedding dress or evening dress. It has a low neckline and mid length sleeves which both indicate that the dress was worn for a special occasion. The length of the skirt suggests the use of the crinoline that that was popular at the beginning of Victoria’s reign was worn.
