Description:Ogden's British cigarette card, showing Captain Walter Norris Congreve (1862-1927).

Walter Norris Congreve was the son of William and Fanny E. Congreve of Castle Church, Stafford. He served in the British Army 1885–1924 and rose to the rank of General of the Rifle Brigade. He commanded 6th Division, XIII Corps, VII Corps, Southern Command in the second Boer War and in World War I.

He was awarded the Victoria Cross, Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath, and Member of the Royal Victorian Order.
