Description:Agnes Ballance was born 21 February 1891 in Tixall. She worked as a parlour maid at Shugborough as a teenager. By 1911 she was working as a housemaid for John Arthur Tomlinson, brick and tile manufacturer of Highfields, Newcastle-under-Lyme, and later worked in the household of the Hopes family at Mittin manor, near Penkridge. She married Vincent Jeffreys, miller at Whiston near Penkridge, at Stone in 1914. She died, aged 90, in Shrewsbury in 1981.
