Description:This image of a gargoyle in the Nave of St. John the Baptist Church, Armitage, is taken from a glass negative.

With the exception of the tower, which dates from 1632, the church was rebuilt in 1844-7 in a Norman style, to the designs of Henry Ward of Stafford. The organ at the church is of particular interest because of its size, age and history. It was built in 1789 for Lichfield Cathedral, but moved here in 1865, it was commissioned by Josiah Spode IV who lived nearby at the Hawkesyard Estate (also known as Spode House and previously as Armitage Park).
