Description:By 1924, the first sewage filter beds had been built on the site of Strongford Mill on the River Trent, between Stoke on Trent and Barlaston. New slurry beds were built in 1938.

This view shows the main pump house. Further expansion at Strongford was authorised in 1946 and this phase of the work was completed by 1951. Today (2013) Strongford Sewage Treatment works serves about 350,000 people.
