Description:The aim of the Air Training Corps was to prepare cadets for service in the Royal Airforce or the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy.

This picture shows 1436 Squadron A.T.C., the first to be formed in Stone, o their first Church Parade. They are walking along Stafford Street, past Westbridge Park.

The Stone Air Defence Cadet Corps, later the A.T.C., was founded in May 1941, with the help of Squadron-Leader H.C. (Claude) Cooksey (seen on the front row, right). Also in this photograph are: Mr Barker Smith, Headmastter of Granville Secondary Modern School (front middle); Archie Allen (front left); Ron Fallows (4th from front in left column); Eddie Fallows (6th from front in left column); Rupert Adderley (5th from back in right hand column).

Stone Senior Council School was used as a centre, but the A.T.C. moved to new premises in 1966.
