Description:A photograph taken during the investigation and trial of the notorious murderer and robber Donald Neilson, who was given the epithet 'the Black Panther' by the press. The kidnap and murder of Shropshire heriress Lesley Whittle had a major impact not only in the national news, but also locally, as she died at Bathpool, Kidsgrove. Neilson was sentenced to life imprisonment in July 1976 for the murder of Lesley Whittle, two sub-postmasters and the husband of a sub-postmistress. Pictured is the car carrying Mrs Neilson and Barrington Black, who was Donald Neilson's solicitor. The reason for them being at Stone Police Station was that Tittensor Post Office had been one of a number of Post Offices Neilson had robbed across the north of England. Tony Dennis is the policeman standing behind the car as it turns into Radford Street.
