Date:1944

Description:In the English summer of 1944, an American aircraft crashed at Creswell, Stafford, killing the pilot. The plane was piloted by 25-year old USAAF Captain John Pershing Perrin, DFC, who lost his life in preventing his stricken plane crashing on Stafford. Captain Perrin, a native of Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - a decorated USAAF WWII fighter pilot ace - heroically stayed with his stricken plane instead of bailing out.

The definitive account of that accident,The First and Last Mustang Flight of a Heroic WWII American Pilot, first published in 2005, is former local man Stanley Jones’ boyhood remembrance of the crash, along with an investigative account and recreation of events leading up to it.
