Description:Sir Richard Whitworth (1737-1811) of Batchacre Hall, Adbaston, Staffordshire was a Justice of the Peace and politician. He attended Adams' Grammar School in Newport. He was Member of Parliament for Stafford 1768-1780. At the age of 21 he was High Sheriff for Staffordshire in 1758. Somewhat eccentric, Whitworth organised naval battles which took place on the lake at Batchacre, and re-erected the portico from Gerards Bromley Hall in the woods to the south of the Hall.
