Description:George Smalridge (1662-1719), Bishop of Bristol, was born in Lichfield and was the son of the Sheriff of Lichfield, Thomas Smalridge. In 1714 he was appointed Bishop of Bristol. Dr. Johnson praised his sermons as being of the highest class. An engraving by William Virtue after a painting by Sir Godfrey Kneller.
