Description:Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots (1542-1587), daughter of james V of Scotland. She aceded to the Scottish Throne at the age of one week, and lost her crown in Scotland in 1568.

In 1575 Elizabeth I was entertained at Chartley Hall on her journey through Staffordshire. Elizabeth also had Mary Queen of Scots held prisoner at Chartley Hall between December 1585 and September 1586, before she was taken to Fotheringhay Castle in Northamptonshire for trial and execution. In Staffordshire, she had also been held prisoner at Tixall Hall and Tutbury Castle at various points between 1569 and 1586.
