Description:Lantern slide view of soldiers of the 6th North Staffordshire Regiment marching along Guild Street. The Opera House can be seen to the left of centre. St. George's Hall was built on the corner of George Street and Guild Street in 1867 and reopened as the New Theatre and Opera House in 1902. From 1910 it showed films and in 1930 was converted into a cinema.
The few differences from 1914 and the scene today (October 2022) are the tram lines, the cobbled entrance (bottom right) and the replacement of the Opera house with a larger more modern building.
