The Closes on this council housing estate were named after national and local Labour politicians. Bevan Close was named after Aneurin Bevan, the Welsh Labour party M.P. who as Minister of Health was responsible for introducing the National Health Service in 1948. His wife, Jenny Lee, was Member of Parliament for Cannock between 1945 and 1970.
