Description:Taken in 1895 this early photgraph shows the High Street and Guildhall in Newcastle-under-Lyme. The area in the centre of the picture is cobbled and horses and carts can be seen, some carts acting as market stalls, others empty waiting to be filled and others being unloaded. The everyday hustle and bustle in this scene takes in the lives of the people who once lived in Newcastle, and is also a scene that would still be recognisable to them today.
