Description:Portrait of a bewigged man in a brown buttoned-up coat and white shirt. Portrait of a member of the Whitby family of Haywood Abbey, Great Haywood in a circular painted surround. Gilt picture frame.

Thomas Whitby (1531-1621) aquired Shugborough. His son John Whitby sold Shugborough to the Anson family in 1624 and purchased Haywood Abbey, Great Haywood. His great grandson, John Whitby J.P. purchased Oakedge, Colwich around 1750. His son Rev. Thomas Whitby sold Oakedge to Hon. Thomas Clifford and purchased Creswell Hall prior to his death in 1828.
