Date:1947

Description:A view taken in 1947 of the back of a house in Stanley Crescent Uttoxeter, looking towards Spath on the left. Titley's water mill is at the top, which is now (2008) derelict and surrounded by a scrap yard. At the time of this photograph it was working and powered by water from the river Tean. The Churnet Valley Railway Line can also be seen and the fence which borders Uttoxeter by-pass. Bottom right of the left-hand garden are the remains of a home made air raid shelter which unfortunately filled with water. It was thought that the water came from the line of the Uttoxeter Canal which terminated at the wharf. The view is now blocked by The Little Chef and accommodation.
