Description:Temperance banner, silk with painted design. Design of St. George in full armour with one foot on a defeated dragon, a sword in his right hand and a shield in his left. Scroll above his head with inscription: 'Temperance'. The word 'Truth' is painted on St. George's waistband. On his shield are the words 'Purity, Life and Peace'. Around the dragon are the words: 'Disease, Pauperism, Death, It Biteth Like a Serpent, Drink, Lust and Drunkenness'. On the other side of St. George are the words 'Virtue, Peace and Love' over a rose bush. The banner is edged with blue silk tape and there is a painted border of water lilies. Blue fringe on bottom. Attached to wooden pole at top with tapes. Hand sewn.

When the banner was collected, the painted inscriptions were covered with canvas and cloth pieces which have been removed. These included two pieces of canvas inscribed 'St. George' and 'For England' painted in cream on a gold background; three pieces of drafting cloth with inscriptions in red 'Long Live George, Our King'; piece of drafting cloth with painted orange and red wavy lines; a piece of plain cloth. All these pieces of fabric were sewn on with large stitches.

The place of origin of this banner is unfortunately not known.
