Description:The building on the right was formerly used as an egg market. It was held every Wednesday. In the first half of the 20th century, eggs would be sold to Herbert Austin, the egg factor, who would take the eggs to Alsop-en-le-Dale station and then sell them in Manchester.

Further down the street is the Post Office. There was a Post Office in Alstonefield by 1850, run by the Hambleton family who first opened a Mercer and Grocer's shop on the site in 1759. The Post Office and Shop closed in September 2001.
