Date:1900 - 1920 (c.)

Description:A horse-drawn single bar cultivator. Cultivators are used, like hoes, to keep control of weeds between crops. This model is unusual in that it has a single horizontal bar instead of pointed tines to skim the surface of the soil. It was probably used on a small holding or market garden. No manufacturer's plate or name is visible, and this cultivator may have been made to order by a blacksmith.

This object is now part of the Staffordshire County Museum collection, and was restored in 2007 with the assistance of MLA West Midlands' Supporting Stewardship grant.
