Description:Staff and pupils outside Calton School in the 1930s. The village War Memorial can be seen in the wall behind them.

Building work began on the village school in 1875, but it was not until 20 June 1881 that the first batch of sixteen children aged between 3 and 7 were admitted. The school closed in July 1980 and the building is now used as the village Memorial Hall.
