Description:Samuel Peploe Wood was a sculptor and painter and was born in Great Haywood in 1827. He was the younger brother of the painter Thomas Peploe Wood. He died in Lichfield in 1873.

His work can be seen in the reredos of Colwich Church, and a cross in the churchyard in memory of his brother, Thomas, and other members of the Wood family.

This unsigned sketch was possibly drawn by the sculptor George Caldwell.
